FAQs
Which parts of the wedding do you play for?
It's quite common for us to play as the guests are arriving at the church/other venue. Then, of course, the entrance of the bridal party is often heralded by music. This could be traditional, eg Pachelbel's Canon, romantic eg, the Secret Wedding from "Braveheart ", or it can be something completely different that has special meaning to the couple. (One of our brides walked down the aisle to a string quartet arrangement of "I'm Feelin' Good"..... We just loved that!)
We can accompany hymns if it's a religious service (make sure you let us know in plenty of time which hymns you've chosen!)
The signing of the register provides another opportunity for fitting music, and again, we can play your own choice or we can help you choose something suitable to entertain your guests as you sign on the dotted line and pose for your first photos as husband and wife. This is usually followed by the recessional - the bridal party leaving. All the solemnity of the occasion is now over, this music is often triumphant and jubilant. Handel's "Queen of Sheba", his "Water Music" or Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" are popular choices here, but again, we can help you to find the perfect music for this.
Many couples have music played during the drinks reception following the service (before dinner). It's a good idea, as it helps to entertain the guests whilst you're getting your photos taken. At this time, we would tend to play a much lighter selection, music from the 40's, 50's 60's, some jazz numbers, show tunes, ragtime, and the odd gypsy air... We can also play throughout the wedding breakfast - a selection of all of the above at your discretion.
What is a String Quartet?
A String Quartet comprises 2 violins, 1 viola and 1 cello. It is the most commonly used string group for Weddings and Corporate Events, since it has long since been proved to have the perfect blend of string voices, and has attracted therefore by far the widest amount of music.
Do we need to provide anything for you?
All we will require are four armless (ie dining chairs) set in an area about 10ft by 6ft which has adequate lighting. If we are to play continuously for more than an hour, some light refreshment would be appreciated (we are always happy to toast the happy couple!)
How do we pay?
When we have discussed and agreed arrangements, we will send you a simple contract to sign and return with a small deposit. The remainder to be paid on the day either before, during or after our time with you.
